no he wasnt jimmy, whats your point? its not like one is better than the other.

for everything jimmy was better than jerry at, i could point out something jerry was better at, and vice versa

i honestly dont get the whole the guitarists dispute, you see a lot of this shit on youtube. i think the guys who argue over shit like this probably dont play anything at all. cause if you did, youd know theres something to learn from all of em, and they were all great

Yep. Do still think there is a point to be made for Jerry's great breadth, but I don't use that fact to argue he is therefore the "best" since as you say, it's an argument that you generally can't win. But, BD's comment above aside (ie, folks might search high and low and find a very few to consider in this discussion), I have come to be relatively confident about Jerry having the edge in this one respect (variety of genres, etc.).

Not only that but how many shows has Jimmy played? I would guess he is still not even close to Jerry in the amount of "work" he has done. Garcia has to have the most recorded guitar solo's in history by far.

Surely! Also really agree with the folks above vis a vis the rest of the Dead being so critical. The only band I consider having had as good an overall fit with one another was Cream (NOTE: don't write in folks!!!! I know I can't win that one either!) but that is largely because of how much I like(d) Baker and Bruce...

if RT and JG were locked in a death cage match, I might bow to Jer...I'm just upset they never did anything together. That would have been serious fun (yesterday heard Jer with Jorma, Cassady, Phil and Mickey from an October 69 "jam" at the airplane's fulton street residence on local public radio out of santa cruz. Great, great stuff)

Hey BD--thanks for those links above; checked them out and agree. Have to admit, his vocals just don't connect to me, but he defn writes well. And the playing is super--had only run across a bit of his material before.

Yeah, those animated matches were great--can't recall the one with Jerry in it; who did he fight?

Too good; I pictured the Matrix shot with the gun to the temple; that's the way to do it...
